The University of Iowa brings college-town energy through the arts, athletics, and a campus that blends right into downtown Iowa City. That connection creates opportunities to experience everything from a performance to a Hawkeye sporting event. But enjoying life here doesn’t have to mean filling every evening with plans. Sometimes, feeling at home is as simple as finding your favorite place for coffee or getting to know a neighbor.
Connection Happens in Everyday Moments, Too
Festivals and concerts are a fun introduction, but I believe a sense of belonging grows through everyday participation, too.
Iowa City’s neighborhood associations, for example, provide opportunities for neighbors to exchange ideas, organize gatherings, take part in improvement projects, and communicate with city government. That’s a different kind of connection, but an equally important one.
My encouragement is to start with something you genuinely enjoy. Attend an event, explore a local group, or introduce yourself to someone you haven’t met. You don’t need to know everyone or have lived here for years, to begin building connections.
Connected Communities, Each With Its Own Personality
One of my favorite things about our area is that you don’t have to limit your experience to the city on your mailing address.
Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, and Tiffin are the four communities highlighted on Iowa City Area Living. My hope is to help people discover each one, not just as a potential place to live, but as another part of the area to enjoy.
In Iowa City, the Friday Night Concert Series brings free live music to the downtown Ped Mall during the warmer months. The seasonal Iowa City Farmers Market offers another opportunity to get out, support local vendors, and enjoy being part of the community. These are wonderful starting points for getting a feel for downtown beyond a quick drive through.
In Coralville, traditions like 4thFest bring people together through a parade, entertainment, and activities at S.T. Morrison Park. I appreciate events that give residents and visitors a shared experience… something to look forward to and make their own traditions around.
In North Liberty, the city’s City Slate offers a rotating collection of free community events. To me, creating opportunities to participate without an admission cost is a meaningful way to help people get involved.
In Tiffin, Summer Social: Parties in the Park brings gatherings, entertainment, and activities into local parks and public spaces. It’s another example of how our communities create reasons to step outside, spend time together, and meet someone new.
My Perspective: Look Beyond the Address
As a local real estate professional, I believe helping people understand a community is just as important as helping them understand a property. A home matters, but so does the life you build around it.
Whether you’re considering a move or have called this area home for decades, there’s value in exploring beyond your familiar routine. Visit another community. Try something new. Give yourself the chance to discover a new favorite.
I’m proud to be part of this area, and that pride is at the heart of Iowa City Area Living. My goal is to make exploring easier and help you find the information and connections that matter to you.
Connected communities. One special place to call home.
