When I’m helping someone get to know Coralville, I love talking about what’s beyond the front door. Where will you take an evening walk? How do you like to spend a sunny Saturday? What might become your new favorite way to unwind?
Those everyday moments matter. Finding a home is one thing, but discovering how you’ll enjoy living there is another and it’s one of my favorite parts of helping people explore our area.
Spend a Little Time on the Water
Nearby Coralville Lake offers opportunities for boating and fishing, along with hiking, camping, birdwatching, and picnicking in its surrounding recreation areas. You don’t have to own a boat to enjoy a day near the water. A picnic and a walk can make for a wonderful outing, too.
What I appreciate is having options for both adventure and downtime. Some days call for making plans and gathering friends. Others call for slowing down and enjoying the view. Both sound like time well spent to me.
Explore on Foot or Two Wheels
Coralville’s trail network provides places to walk, run, and bike throughout the community. Clear Creek Trail is one option to explore, with connections extending into Tiffin. Just another example of how our communities come together beyond city boundaries.
I encourage you to experience a neighborhood at walking pace, not just through a car window. Think about where you might take a morning stroll or fit in a bike ride after work.
And for those who already live here, trying a different trail can be a simple way to see a familiar community from a new perspective.
Make Room for Parks, Pools, and Play
Recreation doesn’t have to involve an entire weekend away. S.T. Morrison Park brings together a playground, fishing pond, tennis courts, ball fields, and picnic shelters, making it a useful starting point for an afternoon outdoors.
For swimming and organized activities, Coralville offers an indoor pool, the seasonal Coralville Community Aquatic Center, and recreation programs for youth and adults. These give residents different ways to stay active and try something new throughout the year.
Golfers can also explore Brown Deer Golf Club, Coralville’s public 18-hole course, which includes a driving range and practice facilities.
I like that being active can look different for everyone. It might mean learning a skill, enjoying a little friendly competition, or simply setting aside time to do something you love.
Make an Afternoon of Iowa River Landing
For a more relaxed outing, Iowa River Landing brings shopping, restaurants, and events together in a district along the Iowa River. It’s a place to browse, meet for a meal, or build an afternoon around something on the events calendar.
There’s a quieter side to explore, too. Iowa River Landing Wetland Park features elevated walkways, a viewing tower, and opportunities for nature walks and birdwatching. Pairing a walk through the wetlands with lunch nearby is one way to enjoy both sides of the area.
Not every outing needs a packed itinerary. Sometimes the best plan is to leave a little room to wander.
My Perspective: Get to Know the Life Around the Home
I want people to picture more than where their furniture will go. I want them to think about the life they’ll build around their home and the places that might become part of their routine.
That’s also why I created Iowa City Area Living. Whether you’re considering a move or have called this area home for years, I hope it helps you find something new to enjoy.
Start with a trail, plan an afternoon out, or explore somewhere you’ve driven past but never visited. Your next local favorite might be waiting.
Connected communities. One special place to call home.
